Easy Oven dried strawberries

Woohoo!!! Strawberries are in season and we are in HEAVEN! To say that this family loves strawberries would be an understatement. We are OBSESSED with them! Here in Kingsburg we have (I may be biased) the worlds BEST strawberry stand (shout out to Jerry and Nancy Fry). If your’e local, and you haven’t tried their strawberries, please please do yourself a favor and go get ’em!  You’ll have to arrive early though, because like most amazing things, she sells out quick.

My boys think that they need some type of candy or dessert, after each and every meal,  anyone else’s kiddos? I was trying to think of something healthy that would satisfy their sugar cravings (well, ok..mine too!) And that’s when I looked over and saw those big juicy strawberries sitting on my counter-insert lightbulb over my head-The beauty of this treat is that all ya need is a baking sheet, strawberries, and a little time!

Start by preheating your oven to 200 degrees, slow & steady is our game plan here. Wash & dry your strawberries. The amount you decide to bake is completely up to you. But I do recommend making more than you THINK you want because once they are cooked, they are maybe a quarter of the size they once were. Once strawberries have dried, cut off their stems and cut in half, lengthwise.

Now place on your baking sheet, cut side up. Make sure you lay them down in a single layer, giving them a little space. Place baking sheet in the oven and set your time for 3 hours. Now go binge watch something, go ahead!

After about an hour and a half I like to flip mine, however I know some don’t, totally up to you. Once your 3 hours is up, check your berries and decide if you’d like them to cook a little longer or not. Disclaimer, we here at casa de’ Miller like ours extra chewy, so I let them go to a full 3 1/2 hours. Whatever time you decide on, once you pull them out of the oven, let them continue to dry on the counter for an additional hour. And last but not least, ENJOY!
