Our very favorite Christmas tradition, our North Pole Breakfast!
Elf on The Shelf
Unless you’ve been living under a rock the last several years, you’ve probably heard of The Elf on The Shelf! Our Elf’s name is Elfie. Original, right? ha! He arrives each year sometime between the day after Thanksgiving and December 2nd. In other words, he arrives when mom gets around to finding him, and mentally preparing myself for hiding him in fun and creative places night after night. I know some of you mamas relate with me on that one?! haha!
The thing we look forward to most with our Elfie, is the North Pole breakfast that he arrives with! Now each year is different. If you are very organized with your Elf’s arrival, then you can have your Elf arrive with it each year. As I mentioned before, I’m not very organized with our Elf, so some years he arrives with it, and others he brings the special North Pole Breakfast a week later. My kids don’t seem to mind.
What exactly is a North Pole Breakfast?
A North Pole Breakfast is a a breakfast that our Elf on the Shelf brings with him, sets up himself and brings/ makes, a decadent breakfast primarily consisting of sugary treats and lots of Christmas decorations. Now, I know what you’re thinking, why should the Elf get all the credit? If this is your mindset, by all means, start this tradition as something that YOU create! You will receive all the praise and your kiddos will not enjoy it any less! OR this can be a tradition sent from the big guy himself, Santa! Whatever you decide on, start this tradition this year! Your kiddos will LOVE it and have these memories forever!
What to Serve
Last year I bought Kellogg French toast sticks and this year I went with their mini pancakes. They’re super convenient for this kind of thing because all you need to do is warm them up in the microwave. I found the little Santa picks at Target & made cute little pancake stacks!
One thing we always make sure to have is these powdered sugar donuts.
Another favorite was this strawberry jello with whipped cream & sprinkles!
MY personal favorite is the hot cocoa bar that Elfie sets up!
I picked up the cute little Christmas mugs at Target last year. Made some hot cocoa spoons simply by melted semi sweet chocolate chips, dipping a white plastic spoon in it, topping each with broken candy cane or sprinkles, and letting them lay flat to dry. Then you can use them to stir your cocoa! Also included in the hot cocoa bar, marshmallows, pretzel sticks, and candy cane sticks! The kiddos grabbed their mugs, I poured warm water in each, the emptied their cocoa packets and added their desired toppings. Now is that fun or what?!
I also like to serve some sort of fruit variation. Last year I made a fruit “Christmas tree” with apples & raspberries, using raisins for the trunk, then a cheese, star, tree topper!
The year before last I served these little fruit cups in Christmas cupcake liners. Ultimately, think of items you can prepare the night before or quietly the morning of. Go with easy finger type foods that won’t take a lot of work or make a lot of noice to whip up. After all, you don’t want to go to all of this trouble then ruin the surprise!
A few of the details that helped make this North Pole Breakfast so special..
We have a small collection of Christmas books so it’s awfully special that our Elf always bring a little present with him and what is it you ask? Well, a Christmas book to add to our collection, of course!
These Christmas plates were found at Target. They match the hot cocoa mugs.
The “tablecloth” is actually just two yards of fabric that I picked up at Joann’s Crafts and folded in half.
The pretty decorative stars that I have hanging from my chandelier were a Target dollar spot find.
Chair covers, food platters & napkins were found at the Dollar Tree.
