This time of year is so hard on my mama heart! I so badly want a little structure, a routine if you will, but I’m just never ready to send my kiddos back to school. I’m all about late summer nights, slow and lazy mornings and days packed full of fun!! But, all good things come to end, including summer vacation! I’ve been trying to come up with fun ideas for our last few days of summer vacay and being that our family loves a good tradition, I thought a ‘back to school dinner’ would be a really special way to share our favorite memories of summer and our goals for the school year!
My boys were too excited when the saw how I’d transformed our dining room!
As you can see this isn’t just any ‘ole dinner, this is a school house themed dinner PARTY!
I am completely obsessed with all of the beautiful colors!
I decorated our dining room mirror with this adorable apple banner that I scored in the dollar section at Target, and the pencil banner i found on Pinterest, for free! The other colorful embellishments I purchased at Hobby Lobby.
I painted these mason jars and filled them with a few classroom staples, another idea I found on Pinterest! We have several clipboards on hand so I used one of them to clip together another free printable I’d found online. I had some lined paper, that I was hoping to use, so I glued the printable onto that, and clipped it onto the board. Quick, easy and so darn cute!
Oh! The green apple pictured above, another Target dollar bin find! It’s actually a candy dish.
I had both the chalk board and the globe so I threw those in the mix as well! You can find this same chalk board at any craft store. I purchased mine from Hobby Lobby. The ceramic pencil..You guessed it, Target dollar bin.
I was super excited about the place settings. I found a pack of 4 cork board pads at Hobby Lobby for around 8 dollars. Purchased a few school themed card stock papers to go on top and then layered some plates. The apples you ask, yep.. Target dollar spot!
The tray in the center of the table is our designated ‘homework tray’. It stays on our kitchen table all school year long and contains everything my boys need during home work.
I plan to keep our dining room decorated for the rest of the month and because my kiddos and I love it so much, possibly the month of September! We plan to have our ‘Back to School Dinner’ the night before they have their first days. But you can have your the night of, the following week, anytime you choose! Just have fun, and celebrate the school year that awaits your family!
